A ‘LIDL’ CAUTION NEEDED OVER ‘FREE FOOD’ SCAM

MOBILE PHONE BILL TEXT SCAM ALERT

Halton Borough Council’s Trading Standards wants to make residents aware of scam text messages regarding free food from Lidl.

This is a case of the old adage, ‘If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is’.

Just like many of the scams we are currently seeing, the scammers want you click on a link, download something or gain your personal details.

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “This is no different, they also use the old trick of saying there are only a few left, to force you to make a quick (and bad) decision.”
