Again by Pauline McAdam

We will dance again.
We will sing again.
We will claim back our lives
proud and fierce again.
This pandemic of fear
Locked away,
we’ll draw near
to our day to day hopes,
needs,
gripes,
dreams:
Again

In the room again
no more Zoom again;
drinking tea with me Nan on the couch again.
No two metre divide;
not arm’s length but arms wide.
Cross the threshold to family life
Again

Stay out late again.
Snog and date again;
Rollers, false lashes, lippy and slap again.
Raise a glass: down a pint
on the town Friday night.
Pubs
clubs
theatres
gigs
curtain call claps
Again

We’ll stand close again;
Nose to nose
Again.
In the spaces between we will step again.
In this city of tales
Tell our stories – regale
Laugh out Loud
Natter
Gab; Geg; Goss;
Give
Again

No homeschools again;
tiers and rules again.
No more
“Please Miss you need to unmute”
Again.
Parks, playgrounds and school gates
in a giggle of mates :
laugh
skip
run
jostle
bicker
and play
Again

Legions march again
cross the park again
to the Gladys St end and the Kop again.
Scarves wrapped tight in our hands,
On the terraces stand
in the crowd
heads unbowed;
chant and cheer
Again

We will mark again.
We will meet again;
Throw our caps to the sky on Hope street again.
Baby showers and Hen nights,
Shower confetti;
Last rites;
Consolation in grief and in prayers of relief.
We’ll enfold in the grace of our arms
Again

We will weep again;
Heartsore, bleed again.
To our altars of faith
we’ll draw near again.
Congregate as one soul
Separate;
Near now’
So whole:
In our temples and sanctuaries kneel
Again

We will clasp again
Hands held fast again.
Kiss on forehead on cheeks on the lips
Again.
Tide will turn as it must
To our future;
To trust
That we’ll hold,
Clench
Touch
Clutch
We’ll /bearhug/
again

Gathered close again
We will talk again.
Never alone will we walk again.
We will meet face to face:
Time to heal,
To embrace.
Unmasked Mersey wide smiles
Flood this place
Again

And again

And again

We will dance again
