Inspiration is the theme as St Helens Borough Council upgrades its boundary signs at key gateways into the borough.
Motorists heading into St Helens Borough will soon be welcomed by new boundary signs on the East Lancs (east and west bound), Liverpool Road (southbound), St Helens Linkway (northbound) and the Rainford Bypass that reflect the borough’s success and achievements.
Featuring St Helens R.F.C. (Saints), darts world champion Michael Smith, Haydock Park Racecourse, young people, and the iconic Dream sculpture, the signs symbolise the borough being home to champions, winners, trailblazers, and dreams – replacing boundary signs that have been in place for a number of years and have reached end of life.
The signs and images are as follows:
East Lancashire Road (Eastbound) – Champions: Saints
East Lancashire Road (Westbound) – Winners: Haydock Park
Liverpool Road (Southbound) – Champions: Michael Smith
St Helens Linkway (Northbound) – Dreams: Dream
Rainford Bypass (Southbound) – Trailblazers: young people
St Helens Borough Council Leader, Councillor David Baines, said: “With recognition at a global level after Michael Smith’s incredible victory in the World Championship Darts final, followed by Saints’ historic World Club Challenge win in Australia, St Helens Borough is riding on the crest of a wave. And with lots more happening including the regeneration of our town centres, the world leading Glass Futures, Parkside redevelopment, new jobs and opportunities, and many amazing Borough of Culture events, we want that momentum to continue as we look to inspire children and young people in particular.
“Whether you’re lucky enough to call it home or if you’re just passing through, we everyone to know about the things that make St Helens Borough such a great place, and these new signs will certainly help with that.”
The new signs are set to be installed from next week (week commencing Monday 22 May 2023).
