We are appealing for witnesses following a robbery where a teenager was stabbed in the hand in Bidston last night, Tuesday 15 August.
Just after 10pm a 17-year-old boy was riding on an electric bike with a friend along an alleyway between St Oswalds Avenue and Bidston Village Road when he was confronted by two males.
One suspect threw a bicycle on the floor in front of him, causing him to swerve and come off his bike. The second suspect then stole the keys to his bike, struck the victim in the hand with a machete and they made off on the electric bike.
The teenage boy was taken to hospital for treatment.
An investigation is underway with officers carrying out forensic, CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries.
Detective inspector Emma Kerrigan said: “This was a nasty attack on a teenage boy where he sustained a hand injury, but this could have been a lot worse with the reckless use of knives.
“We are continuing with enquiries into this incident, and I would appeal to those who we haven’t already spoken who were at the party to please contact us.
“I would also ask people who were in the area to check dashcam or CCTV footage to see if the incident was captured on it.
“The stolen bike was quite distinctive and unique as it was a Sur Ron electric bike with gold handle bars. So, I ask people in Bidston and surrounding areas to please contact us if you see anyone riding a bike of this description, as this may help us with the investigation.”
Detective Inspector Kerrigan added: “Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round.
“Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.”
