We are investigating a reported hate crime at Cains Brewery Village, Stanhope Street, Liverpool, yesterday (Sunday 2 May).
It was reported that, at around 5.15pm, a group of females in Peaky Blinders bar were causing a disturbance and made a racially aggravated comment towards a male member of staff.
The group were asked to leave the premises and it was reported that the women made a further comment towards him.
It was also reported that, on leaving the premises, one of the group assaulted the member of staff, allegedly kicking him in the stomach and face.
CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible, and police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Detective Inspector Chris Hawitt said: “We are in the early stages of an investigation into a reported hate crime in Liverpool last night and we would urge anyone who was in Peaky Blinders Bar who witnessed the incident to come forward with any information.
“To be verbally abused and assaulted in such a way is completely unacceptable and we’re working hard to find those responsible.
“If you have any information about the incident, please don’t hesitate to let us know. You can come forward directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers, however you choose to let us know, please come forward and we will take action.
“We will always take reports of hate crime extremely seriously and we will do everything within our powers to ensure that those responsible for such incidents are dealt with.”
