BE A PAL AND MAKE THEIR DAY!

BE A PAL AND MAKE THEIR DAY!

Halton Borough Council is leading an initiative to bring people together using the power of pen and paper!

Care homes have been through unprecedented times during the pandemic and the Council has come up with a number of ways to help keep care home residents in touch with the outside world.

One of the ideas to combat loneliness and isolation –  as part of the wider #HaltOnLoneliness campaign –  is to encourage members of the public, young and old, to become a pen pal with one of our care home residents  –  all for the price of a stamp!

You could help brighten up someone’s day by sending a letter, a colourful postcard, or picture, giving residents something to talk about and share with others. It could even be an e-mail if you prefer.

Cllr Marie Wright, the Council’s Executive Board member for Health and Wellbeing, thinks this is a great idea: “I know how welcome a letter or postcard feels when I get one. Imagine how someone who has limited contact with other people outside the care environment will feel if they are receiving news or a lovely picture from someone.”

If you would like to become a pen pal for one of our residents you can sign up by e-mail ss2ll@halton.gov.uk and use Pen Pals as the subject.
