Children’s home rated ‘outstanding’ for tenth consecutive time

Westland Drive children’s home, which provides short breaks for young people with complex needs, is celebrating continued success following a recent Ofsted inspection.

The short break home, which is based in Padgate, has been rated as ‘outstanding’ in its latest inspection, making it the tenth consecutive time the home has been given the highest possible score.

The team behind Westland Drive, which is run by the council, has achieved the highest rating by Ofsted for its work providing respite care for children and young people between the ages of four and 17 with complex health needs, autism, and disabilities.

As part of the inspection, the home also received the maximum rating in each of the three categories in which it was judged. These include an ‘outstanding’ approach for the overall experiences and progress of young people, how well they are helped and protected, and the impact and effectiveness of leaders and managers.

In the report, the education watchdog stated that the home ‘provides highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good’, and also mentioned that children thoroughly enjoy their short breaks at the home.

Each child who stays at Westland Drive has a key worker allocated to them who completes a care plan, which Ofsted highlighted, saying that staff at the home ‘carefully planned around children’s individual needs’.

Children ‘thoroughly enjoy their short breaks at this home and receive exceptional care from a stable, skilled and experienced staff team’. The report also recognised that children’s emotional wellbeing is prioritised, and that staff and managers at Westland Drive have ‘advocated exceptionally well for children’.

Cllr Sarah Hall, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Westland Drive has achieved yet another ‘outstanding’ Ofsted inspection, making this the tenth consecutive time that the home has achieved the top rating.

“This is a truly fantastic achievement, and the continued success is a result of the team’s hard work and dedication to our children and families and ensuring that services are delivered to the highest standards.

“I’m particularly proud to hear inspectors praised the ‘stable, skilled and experienced’ team who run the home, and it is fantastic that the work of this team is recognised. To receive the highest possible rating ten times in a row is incredible, and testament to the great care and service provided by the staff who work at the home.

“Providing outstanding care and support for our children, young people, and their families is our highest priority, and I’m delighted that Warrington has such a well-respected facility that provides vital care and support.

“To have upheld this excellent standard for a decade is a wonderful achievement, and I’m positive that the team at Westland Drive will continue to provide this high quality level of service to in the future.”
