City honour for community champion

Liverpool City Council has honoured a man who has spent 30 years helping his local community.

Bob Blanchard received the ‘Citizen of Honour’ award at Liverpool Town Hall on Tuesday 16 May.

He has been Manager of the Breckfield North Everton Neighbourhood Council for over 30 years, having set up and established the agency himself. It provides practical help, advice, support and training to some of the most vulnerable and hard to reach residents, and has developed and delivered projects that help reduce or combat problems such as anti-social behaviour and poverty.

Bob was also the driving force and founding Trustee of Liverpool Veterans HQ, a charity which has Lord Derby as its patron and supports ex armed forces personnel, reservists, their families and carers providing support, advice, guidance and referral pathways for complex issues they face. It tackles homelessness, benefit claims, mental & physical health problems.

He has also directly supported many other charities and individuals across Liverpool and beyond, including North Liverpool Academy where he is a Trustee.

Lord Mayor, Roy Gladden, said: “Bob has truly made a difference to the lives of local people over the last three decades.

“It has been his energy, drive and ability to represent his local community at senior partnership meetings that has led to such positive impact.”
