Appeal after car driven at pedestrians in Bootle

We can today, Friday 18th August, confirm that a 68 year-old woman has sadly died following a road traffic collision in Wirral.

At around 9.05pm on Monday 14th August it was reported that a blue Ford Fiesta and a blue Peugeot 3008 were in collision on Thornton Common Road, Thornton Hough.


Three people were taken to hospital. Two male drivers sustained serious injuries which are not life threatening, and a 68-year-old female passenger in the Ford Fiesta has since died from her injuries.


A 60-year-old man from Neston was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.


Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family of the lady who has died in this collision.

“We launched an investigation on Monday and our detectives are gathering evidence. Our priority is to get answers for her family, who are being supported by specially trained officers.

“If you were passing the location and saw or captured the incident on CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, or believe you witnessed either vehicle prior to the collision, then please get in touch with us. I would also like to thank members of the local community who have assisted us so far, as their support is vital to us.”
