Councillors will be trading in political battles for a physical one as they embark on challenge to conquer the Three Peaks of Yorkshire.

Setting off in aid of the We Love MCR charity, the intrepid group plan on tackling the peaks – Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – within just 12 hours.

The aim will be to beat the amount of money raised during the last charity hike undertaken by a Council group. In 2019 £25,000 was raised when members and supporters climbed the Three Peaks of Great Britain.

During this challenge Leader of the Council Cllr Bev Craig will be joined by a huge team of supporters. In total 105 people are taking on the Challenge – which will set a Council record for this classic walk.

The group will set off from Manchester on Friday, July 1 at 6am to begin the stunning 24-mile circular route in the Yorkshire Dales

Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council said: “It will be a daunting challenge but we’re prepared and raring to go. To be supporting such an important charity, which does so much to help Mancunians who are struggling will give us a great deal of motivation to keep going through the miles.

“We’ll be in competition with our colleagues who previously walked the Three Peaks of GB so I’m sure a bit of professional rivalry will push us to get through to the finishing line.”

Ged Carter, Head of We Love MCR Charity, said: “Over the years we’ve seen the incredible power that the We Love MCR Charity has to change lives. Every penny raised for We Love MCR goes to help local people to fulfil their ambitions and their potential and truly makes a world of difference.

“I hope the public can be as generous as possible with their donations so that the charity can continue their invaluable work.
