Cruise Liverpool has pushed the boat out to celebrate their one millionth passenger.
Seeing a cruise ship berthed at Liverpool’s waterfront has been a regular sight in the city for over 15 years.
With hundreds of ships choosing to beak their journey or embark passengers in Liverpool in that time, the number of visitors to the city’s shores has been growing steadily.
Now, the Cruise Liverpool team has rolled out the red carpet for their one millionth passenger.
The lucky person was surprised as they were about to board the Fred Olsen Cruise Line’s flagship Borealis on Friday.
To the sound of ‘Congratulations’ being played over the tannoy, the winning passengers – Lorraine Douglas and Janet Griffiths – were surprised with a number of prizes for their trip onboard the Borealis, courtesy of Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.
Head of City Assets, Angie Redhead, presented them with their complementary upgrade, as well as a free overnight stay in the city include dinner and cocktails, and a commemorative Liver Bird.
Angie said: “It’s been a pleasure to see Liverpool’s cruise sector grow over the years. There are not many cities in the world where you can berth a cruise ship in the heart of the city centre and so I’m not surprised we have become such a popular destination. Our one millionth visitor is a real milestone and I was delighted to present Lorraine and Janet with their winning prize. I’m sure they will be thrilled to return to the city for a stay in the near future and enjoy scouse hospitality at its best.”
Lorraine and Janet, who had travelled down from Scotland for the sailing, said: “We weren’t expecting this! It was wonderful and good fun.
Lorraine added: “We both live in Scotland but as my daughter lives just over the water in Wallasey it means it’s a good stopping off point to see her at the same time.”
