Detectives appeal for information following assault of girl in Belle Vale Park

Detectives are appealing for information following an assault in Belle Vale earlier this month.

At around 1pm on Thursday 9 September, a 13-year-old girl was sat on a roundabout in the playground of Belle Vale Park, Belle Vale Road.

A teenage boy approached holding an electric scooter, which he laid down next the roundabout and turned on. As a consequence, the roundabout spun at speed and threw the victim off. She sustained serious injuries to her wrist, elbow and fingers.

The suspect made off. CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing but have yet to confirm any further details or a description of the suspect.

Detective Constable Steven McNally said: “This was a reckless stunt which resulted in serious injuries and a great deal of distress for the victim and her family. It is beyond belief that anyone would behave in such a manner, with no thought to the potentially catastrophic consequences.

“We’re hopeful that anyone in the park who witnessed the incident comes forward with any information, CCTV or other footage which may assist.

“You may have seen a teenage boy in or close to Belle Vale Park that day, riding or pushing an electric scooter. Pass on what you know and we will take action.”
