Detectives have arrested a teenage boy and are appealing for witnesses following a suspected arson in Kirkby yesterday, Sunday 17 October.
At around 5.25pm, officers and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) were called to the former St Mark’s Church on Brook Hey Drive, Northwood to reports of a fire, which caused extensive damage but no injuries.
A 13-year-old boy from Kirkby was detained and has been arrested on suspicion of arson. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: “A boy is under investigation following this incident but we’re still keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident, or captured by way of CCTV, dashcam or other footage anyone acting suspiciously nearby or running off.
“I’d like to assure the community we are determined to establish who was responsible and deal with them appropriately.
“Arson can and does cause devastation to those victims targeted so tell us what you know and we will do the rest.”
