Man charged with four offences following incident in Widnes

Detectives in Warrington are appealing for witnesses and video footage following an armed robbery at a convenience store in Burtonwood.


At around 10pm on Wednesday 1 December three unknown men, armed with hammers and a large knife, entered the Co-Op store on Chapel Lane.

The men then threatened staff and ordered them to open the safe before stealing a quantity of cash and fleeing the store.

The first man was described as a white, around 5’ 9” tall and was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.


The second man was also white, around 6’ tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a black balaclava and dark clothing.

The third man was described as around 5’ 8” tall, he was also white and was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Detective Constable Chris Murphy, of Warrington CID, said: “Thankfully the store workers were not injured as a result of the incident, although understandably they have been left shaken.


“We’re currently following a number of lines of enquiry including CCTV analysis and forensics.

“As part of our investigation we’re also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed the offenders entering or fleeing the store.

“I would also ask nearby residents and drivers to check their CCTV or dash cam footage and come forward if you believe it may be useful to our investigation.
