Discover virtual youth activities through new Instagram page

Children and young people across the borough can now enjoy a variety of free virtual activities to help them through lockdown after the launch of St Helens Youth Service’s Instagram page.

The account, which went live today (Monday 18 May) to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, will feature a wide range of regular content to suit all interests; from mindfulness tips, yoga, arts and crafts, and scavenger hunts – to quizzes, discos, make up tutorials, and chats with qualified youth workers.

Throughout lockdown, the service has been engaging with service users through community outreach work which has seen staff drop off isolation ‘survival packs’ and play socially distanced games – but is now extending its offer to all young people in the borough aged 13-18, and up to 25 years of age for people with additional needs, through popular photo and video-sharing social media platform, Instagram, which has millions of users worldwide.

St Helens Cabinet Member for Developing Young People, Councillor Sue Murphy, said: “We know social media channels like Instagram are widely used by the youth of today – so it’s great to see our Youth Service reach out by welcoming even more of our young people to discover what the Youth Service is all about while using a platform they’re familiar with.

“Our Youth Service is a much-loved service among our children and young people who enjoy the company and activities put on by our amazing staff – so I’d encourage those who haven’t engaged with the service to check them out on Instagram and explore the fun and entertainment there is to be had – especially during these uncertain times.”

To celebrate the launch of their Instagram, St Helens Youth Service is giving away a free water sports session at Taylor Park for up to five people.

All you’ve got to do to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize is follow them on Instagram; tag five friends in a post and share the Youth Service in an Instagram story.

The competition is open for young people aged 13-18, or up to the age of 25 if SEND – and one lucky person will be selected at random.
