On Wednesday 18 January, a fly-tipper was fined and ordered to pay costs by Warrington Magistrates’ Court.
Paul Hart, 42, of Munro Avenue, Wigan, pleaded guilty and was convicted of the offence after a vehicle registered to him was caught on camera fly-tipping the waste on Kingfisher Close, Birchwood.
Mr Hart had allowed the motor vehicle to be used in tipping household furniture on a car park near to a secluded woodland area. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £466 in costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
Councillor Hitesh Patel, cabinet member for environment and public protection said: “We will always pursue fly tippers and hopefully this sends a message to anyone who thinks they can get away with fly tipping. This includes the owners of vehicles used in fly tipping offences.
“People should be aware that even if they are not directly involved in the action of fly-tipping, they can be prosecuted if they allow their vehicle to be used for this purpose.
“Incidents of fly-tipping are increasing, so it is vital that the communities work together and share information to catch fly-tippers and put a stop to it happening.”
