More than 3,500 children in Halton will receive free meals and activities at holiday clubs over the summer thanks to Government grant funding.
Funded by the Department for Education, a £1.8m grant from the Holiday Activities and Food Programme received by Edsential Community Interest Company, will support over 13,100 children and young people across Halton, Cheshire West and Chester, and Wirral.
Edsential, working with Halton Borough Council and Halton and St Helens Voluntary Action, will support and provide funding for over 30 community, voluntary and faith sector organisations, along with schools, to provide:
- Healthy meals and snacks along with family cooking sessions
- A variety of online and directly delivered physical activities such as dance, Yoga, HIIT and adventure play making the most of our outdoor spaces
- Diverse enrichment activities including arts and crafts, pottery making, forest school, gardening clubs and much more.
Cllr Tom McInerney, the Council’s Executive Board member for Children, Education and Social Care, says: “It’s great news that Edsential secured this funding at a time when it is really needed, and we look forward to working with them to enable families to enjoy healthy meals and lots of different activities.”
Edsential will ensure that the programme will adhere to the Government’s guidance around COVID19.
