Warrington, alongside Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils, has successfully bid for a £1.7m funding grant to provide energy efficiency improvements to local homes.
The successful joint funding bid was part of the national Green Homes Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme and Warrington’s allocation of this funding will support low-income households in the least energy efficient homes in Warrington, rated E, F and G.
The council will now be writing directly to households who are eligible for energy efficiency improvements, as well as providing energy advice and guidance to help residents make their homes even greener.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for housing, said: “Securing this funding is great news for Warrington, and for our homeowners who are eligible for improvements, to make their houses more energy efficient. This is particularly positive news as the households that are entitled to benefit from this funding are on lower incomes, so I am delighted that the council can offer valuable support in this way.
“In short, this funding will help us to tackle fuel poverty by increasing the energy efficiency ratings of some of our lowest-income homes, while also reducing their energy bills.”
Green Homes Grants also available
Alongside the Local Authority Delivery scheme, Warrington residents can also apply for Green Homes Grant vouchers, which will help towards the costs of installing energy efficient home improvements.
These improvements could include insulating homes to reduce energy usage, or installing low-carbon heating which would lower the amount of carbon dioxide produced by homes.
Vouchers through this scheme will cover two-thirds of the cost of eligible improvements, up to a maximum government contribution of £5000. You are able to apply for these vouchers if you own your own home, you own your own park home on a residential site or if you’re a residential landlord in the private or social rented sector.
Cllr Judith Guthrie, cabinet member for environment, said: “This scheme, alongside our successful funding bid through the local authority scheme, will really help us to boost the green credentials of our town. When we declared a climate emergency last year, these green home schemes were precisely the sort of projects that we wanted to see more of.
“I would urge residents who are thinking of making home energy efficiency improvements, to research the Green Homes Grant scheme as it could bring you long-lasting benefits. It will also support our vision for clean growth and support our drive to tackle the rampant effects of climate change.”
