Get closer to nature at Whittle Hall Environment Day

Local people are being invited to enjoy a fun-filled day for the whole family at Whittle Hall this bank holiday weekend.

The 2nd Whittle Hall Environment Day takes place on Saturday 29 April at Whittle Hall Community Centre. It follows the success of a similar event last October, which saw more than 250 coming together to enjoy a range of activities and discover more about the local environment.

Organised by The Land Trust, Warrington Borough Council and Great Sankey Parish Council, the day will once again feature some fantastic activities for the whole family to enjoy. There will be pond dipping sessions, giving people the opportunity to discover the unseen world of interesting creatures that live in the pond.

Visitors can also embark on a special nature trail, with a prize and certificate upon completion.

Local councillors, members of the parish council and The Land Trust will be available to talk to residents about local issues, along with council staff, who will be raising awareness about waste and recycling, and cycle routes within the area.

The police will be offering free bike marking, which protects bicycles from theft by marking them with a tamper resistant label, which can be scanned instantly. Meanwhile, the fire service will be providing safety advice and information.

There will also be a local food bank station in the community centre for residents who wish to donate items, and the fair trade team will be selling some of their products.

Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for sustainability and climate change, Cllr Janet Henshaw, has helped organise the day. She said: “Our last Environment Day at Whittle Hall was really popular, and we’re looking forward to this weekend’s event being another big success.

“It’s a great opportunity for the whole community to come together and enjoy some fantastic outdoor activities in this beautiful setting, while finding out more about local services and the part we can all play in protecting and improving the local environment. We look forward to seeing you there!”

The Whittle Hall Environment Day takes place on Saturday 29 April, 10am-2pm, at Whittle Hall Community Centre. Everyone is welcome.

Food and Drink will be available in the community centre by local caterers, ‘Traditions Sandwiches’. Please note this will be cash only.

If you’d like to take part in the pond dipping or nature trail, you’ll need to book your place before you arrive. To do this, visit eventbrite.co.uk and search for ‘Whittle Hall’. The pond dipping is open to all ages, but children must be accompanies and supervised by an adult.
