Local community centres to host free chair-based exercise classes for residents.

Warrington’s 17 community centres will re-open their doors to the public next week, welcoming back residents and community groups after many months of closure.

The centres will be offering support to help residents to return to their pre-COVID levels of fitness and will be introducing exercise sessions for all ages, but particularly aimed at residents with reduced mobility levels, or those who may have been isolated from others during the pandemic.

A range of chair-based exercise classes will be held across eight of Warrington’s community centres. The exercise classes will use unusual equipment like maracas, drums and glow sticks – making sure classes are fun, exciting and full of movement.

Classes will improve strength, balance and mobility and give residents the opportunity to safely visit community centres and socialise with others.

Classes begin from Monday 17 May and take place on Mondays and Thursdays each week.

Mondays:

  • 9.30am – 10.30am – Main Hall, Capesthorne Community Centre
  • 11am – 12noon – Main Hall, Sankey Bridges Community Centre
  • 12.30pm – 1.30pm – Main Hall, Westy Community Centre
  • 2pm – 3pm – Main Hall, Fearnhead Community Centre

Thursdays:

  • 9.30am-10.30am – Main Hall, Whitecross Community Centre
  • 11am-12noon – Community Room, Bewsey Pavillion
  • 1pm – 2pm – Main Hall, Sandy Lane Community Centre
  • 2.30pm – 3.30pm – Main Hall, Penketh Community Centre

The sessions will be based on movements with either maracas, drums or glow sticks for four weeks, then rotate to another set of equipment.
