As part of Get Online Week (17-23 October), St Helens Borough Council’s Adult and Community Learning team will be holding a drop-in event for residents wanting to get online for the first time, or to improve their digital skills.
Held annually, the digital inclusion campaign run by charity, Good Things Foundation, sees thousands of local events take place across the country to provide technical assistance and motivation to learn more, with tens of thousands of people supported since the campaign launched 14 years ago.
In St Helens Borough, an event will be held at the United Reformed Church in Ormskirk Street next week where members of the Adult and Community Learning team will be on hand to help with digital apps and using the internet.
Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council’s portfolio holder for skills, said: “Our Adult and Community Learning service aims to provide people with the necessary digital skills to safely navigate the internet to access employment or training opportunities, healthcare, education, and wellbeing, among other things.
“Being digitally included means having affordable access to the internet as well as the skills and confidence to use it safely. If the last two years have taught us anything, it’s how vital this is for work, school, staying connected with loved ones, and for our health and wellbeing.
“Everyone deserves the opportunity to safely participate in our digital world and no one should be left behind.”
