GMP marks National Volunteers Week 2020

GMP marks National Volunteers Week 2020

Today (Monday 1 June 2020), marks the start of National Volunteers Week, providing the opportunity to celebrate and say thank you for the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK, including those volunteering for Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

GMP’s volunteers provide monumental support, to both their colleagues and the communities of Greater Manchester. They make a valuable contribution to GMP, offering their time freely to help enhance service delivery, reduce demand and build relationships with our local communities.

The roles of volunteers include Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers and Volunteer Police Cadets and Cadet Leaders, all of which provide support in many different ways.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “I would like to thank all of our volunteers who give up their free time to help others, and contribute to making our communities a safer and happier place to live.

“The passion and enthusiasm of all our volunteers is truly commendable, and even in the most uncertain times, our volunteers continue to prove their dedication in supporting colleagues and communities alike.

“Our volunteers play an integral role in policing Greater Manchester, and their passion and enthusiasm is truly commendable. Even in the most uncertain times, our volunteers continue to prove their dedication in supporting colleagues and communities alike.

“It is always great to hear people’s reasons for volunteering and what their roles mean to them, and I am glad we are able to acknowledge the hard work they put in all year round.”

Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Bev Hughes said: “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen the spirit of Greater Manchester really shine through, as individuals and communities come together to help those who need it most. The people that volunteer for GMP are no exception. Through their tireless work both behind the scenes and in front facing roles, our Police Cadets, Police Support Volunteers and Special Constables really do reflect the best of our diverse communities. I want to thank them all for their hard work and dedication.”

Throughout the week, we will be focusing on a range of our volunteers to highlight the breadth of work they do, their commitment, and to provide an insight into their experiences of volunteering with GMP.
