GMP officers donate bird boxes to local care home

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers based in Oldham have donated bird boxes to a local nursing home, to brighten the communal garden and cheer up the residents.

Neighbourhood officer, PC Jon Marsden, saw an appeal from Medlock Court Nursing Home for local residents to make bird boxes for their garden to attract the wildlife, so that residents confined to their rooms due to covi-19 restrictions could have something nice to look at.

PC Jon sourced several bird box kits and he, and PSCO Mark Detheridge, took them home for their children to decorate. They then went and hung the colourfully decorated bird boxes in the care home’s communal gardens.

PC Jon Marsden said: “It feels great to be able to spread some joy to the care home’s NHS workers and residents, many of whom are unwell.

“It’s important that we all support each other during this time and even the smallest of gestures can make a difference – it also gave the kids something to whilst they are staying indoors!”
