Greater Manchester Police (GMP) shows support for ASB Awareness Week 2022
This week (Monday 18 July to Sunday 24 July), GMP is supporting National ASB Awareness Week – a national week of action to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB).
Organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, the week features a series of events across the UK involving Councils, Police Forces, Housing Associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.
A key element of the week’s activity will be the launch of GMP’s ASB plan which is designed to ensure everyone feels safe within their communities and has the confidence to report incidents of ASB.
An important strand of the plan is the deployment of high-visibility patrols – getting officers out onto the streets to listen to what our communities have to say and to help provide that protective and reassuring presence.
Throughout the week, our communities will see patrols across hotspot areas of concern, from our green spaces to our transport network. These patrols form part of the ongoing Safe4Summer operation which focuses on providing positive diversionary activities to young people across the region and encouraging them to stay safe when out and about over the summer, particularly around water and outdoor spaces.
Superintendent Roger Pegram, GMP’s ASB lead, said: “This week we will be building on the work that we undertake on a day-to-day basis within our communities to address the ASB.
“We will work alongside local partners, to continue our collective effort to crack down on the issue which blights our communities and often leaves victims feeling helpless and desperate. We will also be highlighting the options available to those who have been or are being affected by ASB.
“Our communities are a vital resource in helping us to identify and deal with ASB, so I would encourage anyone who is experiencing it to please report it. By reporting an incident or any concerns, you are helping to make your community a better place for everyone.”
Deputy Mayor for Policing, Crime, Criminal Justice and Fire, Bev Hughes, said: “Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week highlights the importance of reporting incidents of ASB and enabling police and other local organisations to tackle it.
“Continuing the work we do through our partnership Safe4Summer campaign, I would encourage people to report any incident of ASB to GMP or anonymously to Crimestoppers. As well as reporting incidents, everyone can help by explaining to family members and friends about the negative impact ASB has on families and communities.”
