GMP welcomes King Charles III and the Queen Consort as they carry out royal engagements across Greater Manchester

King Charles III and Queen Consort visited a number of locations today (Friday 20 January 2023) including meeting and greeting members of the public and attending a number of royal engagements across Greater Manchester.

This morning, his majesty, King Charles III arrived by Royal Train at Manchester Victoria station and was greeted by Greater Manchester Police’s Chief Constable Stephen Watson and Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

His Majesty then departed by Royal convoy and visited the offices of the UK’s intelligence, security, and cyber agency GCHQ.

Shortly after the King visited the Kellogg’s site in Trafford Park before leaving to attend Bolton Town Hall alongside the Queen Consort to celebrate the town hall’s 150th anniversary.

Thousands of people gathered outside the town hall to catch a glimpse of the royal couple and celebrate the special day as a community.

The King and Queen Consort arrived and were greeted by local school children and members of the public who has been waiting patiently for their arrival. They were also greeted by local polish dancers and headed into the town hall with local dignitaries and community groups.

Lowry’s famous painting ‘Going to the Match’ was on display as the couple entered the building and they conversed with local community groups such as Bolton Lads and Girls club, Bolton Unity, The Bereavement Café, Hand Made and Bolton Youth Voice.

Also, in attendance at the event was GMP’s District Commander for Bolton – Superintendent Stephanie Parker, The Mayor of Bolton – Cllr Akhtar Zaman, Chair of Bolton Wanders – Sharon Brittan and Bolton Youth MP’s including Harry Brannagan who helped set up ‘the Bereavement Café’ for young people.

The King and Queen Consort departed Bolton Town Hall and finished the day with an engagement at Norbrook Youth Club in Wythenshawe to meet England’s Football Manager Gareth Southgate and the children at the youth centre.

Greater Manchester Police officers from across the force provided a visible and covert presence across Greater Manchester today to ensure the safety of the King, Queen Consort and royal staff and members of the public who were able to attend and celebrate their visit.
