HALTON TRADING STANDARDS’ ROYAL MAIL SCAM ALERT

HALTON TRADING STANDARDS’ ROYAL MAIL SCAM ALERT

Halton Trading Standards is warning consumers about Royal Mail text message scams. It comes after a Halton resident received a scam text message (see below).

It is a phishing scam (a scam where a text message, email etc is sent by someone posing to be a legitimate institution or person) with the desire to trick consumers into providing their personal or banking details.

The Royal Mail website has examples of the type of Royal Mail scams currently circulating – w2ww.royalmail.com/help/scam-examples

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standarss, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “If you or somebody you know has been caught out by a scam or fraud please contact one of our specialist officers, Linda or Sue on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.”
