Help shape digital arts offer for St Helens Borough

St Helens Borough Council’s award-winning library service is hosting a free online workshop this month for anyone interesting in shaping a digital arts offer for the borough.

Over the last 12 months, the library service has been working with organisation, Ideas Alliance, on an action research project, exploring what a digital arts offer might look like. While in March this year, the council’s cabinet approved an ambitious strategy for the borough which sets out the direction of the arts sector over the next five years.

Through an online event, residents, local and regional artists, community and cultural organisations, local education providers – and anyone else interested in digital arts – are invited to come along and hear about some of the findings from the research, as well as share their own creative ideas which could go on to be used in a final report.

Councillor Anthony Burns, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Culture and Heritage, said:

“The whole arts sector adds true social value to our borough, enriching lives through improving physical and mental health; self-confidence – and helps develop new skills, supporting community cohesion and economic growth.

“I hope that through a shared commitment to work together we can enable the arts to thrive and provide great opportunities for all to enjoy.”

This workshop will take place via zoom from 10:00am-11:30am on Tuesday 25 May. To book your free place visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-digital-arts-vision-for-st-helens-borough-sharing-session-tickets-153465129333

This workshop is presented as part of the Cultural Hubs: Arts in Libraries project, which is funded by Arts Council England and delivered by St Helens Council’s Library Service, which is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation.

Over the last year the programme has resulted in over 13,000 engagements in online activity, events, performances and participation workshops from people who may not get the opportunity to access the arts.
