HELP TRANSFORM EARLESTOWN TOWN CENTRE AT HIGH STREET TASK FORCE WORKSHOP

Businesses and community groups are invited to attend a workshop this week to help deliver the vision for Earlestown town centre’s game-changing regeneration plans.

Article date: 16 May 2022

Forming part of St Helens Borough Council’s involvement in the High Street Task Force – a government initiative to help redefine the high street – the three-hour event, led by place-making experts, will focus on developing the skills and understanding of those with an interest in the future of Earlestown town centre.

In May 2021, after being chosen as one of 70 local authority areas to receive support from the High Streets Task Force, St Helens Borough Council was required to select one town or district centre in the borough to receive support to overcome challenges and unlock potential, with Earlestown the chosen location.

Rich in history and heritage, Earlestown has a popular market dating back around 700 years which attracts thousands of visitors each year. As well as exciting regeneration plans for the town centre, work is also underway to bring its iconic Grade II listed town hall – where The Beatles once played – back into use.

Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Business, said: “We’re using resources available to us through the High Street Task Force to focus on Earlestown, to build on its strengths as a bustling market town centre, rich in history, heritage, and lots of potential for the future.

“Transformation is only possible through the collaboration of our stakeholders, and so we are keen for interested parties to come together to support the vision for Earlestown town centre and how we will deliver the positive change that people want to see here collectively.”

The workshop will be held at Cross Lane United Church Hall, Newton-le-Willows, on Thursday 19 May from 4:45pm-8:00pm.

Attendance is free but with limited places available, bookings must be made in advance which can be done by visiting: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/earlestown-town-centre-high-streets-task-force-event-tickets-334575754087
