Christmas for young people across St Helens Borough has been made a little brighter thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals.
St Helens Borough Council’s campaign to create toy, food and gift hampers for young people and care leavers saw huge donations from businesses and residents that have all gone towards hampers that will make a difference to young people and families.
In total 143 gift hampers have been handed out to young care leavers, 457 food hampers for families have been created thanks to the teams at Teardrops, ESA and The Hope Centre and 520 toy hampers have been given out to children across the borough.
Toni is one of the care leavers who has received a hamper. She said: “Being a care leaver is hard as it is, but during Christmas time it is harder. But when you receive a Christmas hamper it cheers you up and puts a smile back on your face! The gifts are wonderful and very thoughtful!”
Councillor Nova Charlton, Cabinet Member for Protecting Young People, said: “Thank you so much to those generous people who have given gifts, food or their time to help pack and donate these hampers for young people. After the year we’ve had everyone deserves something to look forward to on Christmas Day and no one should miss out. I know from the messages of thanks we get from our care leavers and families how much your donations really mean to them.
“This year the spirit of our borough has been on show through St Helens Together and this shows again that our communities can come together to make a difference to those in need.”
