Huyton man jailed for possession of imitation firearm following incident in Huyton

Detectives are welcoming the sentencing of a Huyton man to 22 months in prison for possession of an imitation firearm, following an incident in Huyton last month.

21-year-old Jamie McClune of Cassino Road was sentenced last week at Liverpool Crown Court, having been charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The imitation firearm has been seized and destroyed.

At around 9.45pm on Monday 16 August, officers were called to Hillside Road to reports of shots being fired, subsequently confirmed to have been from an imitation firearm. Extensive enquiries led to McClune being arrested later that week and the imitation firearm (pictured below) recovered.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith, who leads our specialist Firearms Investigation Team, said: “It is pleasing to see McClune promptly removed from the community and dealt with in the courts. Although nobody was injured in this incident, the fear that such incidents cause cannot be underestimated.

“This firearm, like others we seize, looks extremely realistic and will have been terrifying for anyone who witnessed the incident. Such weapons can and do also cause terror when used in robberies and other serious offences.

“It is vital that we receive any information on weapons being stored, carried and used, so keep doing so, and we will continue to take positive action to make our streets safer from all serious and organised crime.”
