Ice hockey charity event raises around £1,000 for charities in Nicola and Fiona’s memory

This year marks 10 years since PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone were killed in the line of duty, whilst responding to what they thought was a routine call. This horrible incident sent shockwaves throughout the police and the country.

On Saturday 17 September to mark the anniversary of this tragic event, two police ice hockey teams, The Peelers Northern Ice Hockey Club which includes GMP’s police officers, and the South Wales Police Enforcers faced off at Altrincham’s Planet Ice Rink to raise money for two charities in Nicola and Fiona’s memory.

After an amazing game of Ice Hockey, the Peelers Northern Ice Hockey Club were victorious winning 8-4 to the South Wales Police Enforcers.

Saturday’s family event also included a range of activities such as ‘Chuck the puck’ and a ‘Mascot shoots out’ helping to raise money. Educational stalls such as the GMP Police Museum and Blue Light Cars owners club were also in attendance showcasing GMP’s culture and history for all to see.

The whole event was a great success and raised around £1,000 for the both the PC Nicola Hughes Memorial Trust & The Police Treatment Centre.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and has shown their support for these wonderful charities.
