Man charged with going equipped in St Helens

We are investigating following a man died in a collision in St Helens last night (Wednesday 17 June).

At around 10.50pm, emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway of the East Lancs Road, at its junction with Green Leach Lane, where it was reported there had been a collision involving a grey Hyundai Tucson car and an HGV that was stationary at traffic lights.

The driver of the Hyundai – an 81-year-old man – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

The driver of the HGV, a man in his 50s, was unharmed.
