Investigation underway following death of man in St Helens

Detectives are investigating the death of a man in St Helens.

At around 1.30am on Tuesday 22nd August we received a report from the North West Ambulance Service that a 54 year-old man had been assaulted on Brookhouse Grove. He was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries. He was spoken to at the hospital by officers and then later discharged.

The following day, Wednesday 23rd August, at around 3.30pm, the same man collapsed inside a property on Brookhouse Grove. He was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.

A post mortem has took place to establish the cause of death. The man’s family is aware and are being supported by specially trained officers.

An investigation is underway and enquiries are ongoing.

Two men aged 54 and 42 years, and a 29-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder. They have been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out, and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
