We have today, Monday 21st June, welcomed the sentencing of a Liverpool man for causing death by dangerous driving.
Daniel King, 28, of Nimrod Street, Walton, was riding an off road bike which was in collision with a 26 year-old female pedestrian on Court Hey Road in Huyton on the afternoon of 1st March this year. Sadly the female passed away in hospital two days later from her injuries.
King was today jailed at Liverpool Crown Court for eight years and three months for causing death by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance. He was also banned from driving for eight years and must take an extended test. The court also made a destruction order for the off-road bike.
Matrix roads policing Inspector Stuart McIver said: “The reckless actions of King on that day directly led to the death of a young woman who had her whole life ahead of her.
“Her family have been left absolutely devastated by their loss and the manner in which she died and we know that no sentence will ever bring her back but I hope that knowing King is behind bars where he belongs is of some small comfort to them.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who came forward to support our investigation.
“Merseyside Police is committed to stopping the antisocial and criminal use of off-road and scrambler bikes on our roads.
“Earlier this month we launched our summer Operation Brookdale scrambler bike campaign. The campaign, which was originally introduced in 2012 as a response to a rise in reports of the illegal use of scrambler and off-road bikes, specifically over the summer period, is now run all year round.
“It focuses on communities across Merseyside which have been suffering from the nuisance and criminal use of off-road motorbikes, eScooters and eBikes, ranging from anti-social behaviour to their use in serious and organised crime, including firearm incidents.
“I would continue to urge the public to contact us if they know who is using these bikes and where they are being stored so we can take positive action.”
