Majority of St Helens pupils allocated one of their parents’ preferred secondary schools for September 2021

Figures released from St Helens Borough Council’s School Admissions Team show that more than 98 per cent of parents have been successful in securing one of their preferred secondary schools for their child for September 2021.

A total of 96.14 percent of applicants were given their first-choice preference – up from 95.29 the previous year. 2.17 per cent were allocated their second, while 0.44 per cent were given their third choice.

Welcoming the figures, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Business, Councillor Kate Groucutt, said:

“Every year we work closely with our secondary schools to ensure that parents and carers are allocated one of their preferences, and I’m delighted to see that this is the case for September 2021.

“This past year has been extremely difficult for our children and young people, with many of them missing out on months of face-to-face teaching. I know everyone involved in education wants to see them safely back to school and college.

“As we prepare to welcome more students back to the classroom, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful teachers across the borough. We share a firm commitment to ensuring every young person has the best possible start in life. Council officers will continue to work with schools, offering any support they need.

“If any parent or guardian has questions about their application I would ask them to contact the School Admissions Team on 01744 671030 or email schooladmissions@sthelens.gov.uk.”
