We’re welcoming the sentencing of a Somerset man to 16 years in prison for sexual activity with children and possession of indecent images, at Liverpool Crown Court today, Wednesday 29 April.
44-year-old Melvin Miller of Mountsfield in Frome, Somerset pleaded guilty to 35 charges of sexual activity with children. The incidents occurred in the Merseyside area.
Miller was also charged with multiple charges of possessing more than 80,000 indecent images ranging from Category A to Category C. He will be on 12 months extended licence following his sentence and was also given a sexual harm prevention order for the rest of his life.
Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan,said: “Miller is a dangerous sexual predator, who will now be facing a significant time in prison and a lifetime of monitoring.
“Thanks to the bravery of his victims, throughout what is an extremely difficult process, detectives were able to carry out this complex investigation and put Miller before the courts.
“Hopefully this outcome will in some part enable his victims to begin the healing process and rebuild their lives, free of this appalling predator, and give others confidence to come forward and report similar incidents.
“We treat all allegations of sexual offences sensitively and with compassion, and our specially trained officers will ensure that victims are listened to, safeguarded and supported every step of the way.
“The large number of indecent images found when Miller was arrested is extremely high and represents many more victims of abuse, who are exploited for the benefit of Miller and similarly depraved people. We will continue to proactively investigate all reports of people in possession of such material, so come forward with any information.
“If anybody else is out there suffering in silence I want you to know that there is help and support available, both from Merseyside Police, and from reliable and trusted support groups who will stand with you from the initial report and for as long as you need.”
