Man, 63, jailed for 10 years for assault in Wirral

We have today, Wednesday 27th May, welcomed the sentencing of a 63 year-old man for wounding with intent.

On the morning of 7th April this year officers were called to a house on Kingswood Boulevard in Bebington in Wirral following reports a 62 year-old man had been assaulted and suffered lacerations to his face and hands.

Charles Fleming, of Kingswood Boulevard, was arrested a short time later in connection with the assault.

He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court and was today sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was also given a lifetime restraining order.

Detective Inspector Laura Lamping said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked attack which left a man in his 60s with serious facial injuries. The man was taken to hospital where he later had to undergo surgery.

“Knife crime can and does have devastating consequences to victims, their families and friends, and the lives of everyone around them. We are committed to combatting knife crime and bringing the people responsible for justice.

“I am pleased that Fleming will now spend a considerable amount of time behind his bars to think about the consequences of his actions.

“I hope that today’s sentencing also gives his victim some sense of closure and allows him now to move on with his life.”
