Man arrested following incident in Sherdley Park

Detective investigating an incident in Sherdley Park on Friday (20 May) have arrested a man from St Helens.

A 35-year-old woman was running near to the golf driving range at about 1.45pm when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to pull her into nearby woodland.

The woman resisted and it is believed that when he spotted another woman walking nearby he released the woman and demanded money. She told him she had no money and he walked off towards the golf club.

A 21-year-old man from St Helens was arrested yesterday (Monday 23 May) on suspicion of attempted robbery and has been taken into custody for questioning.
