We have arrested a man following reports of a stabbing in New Brighton late last night, Tuesday 5 July.

At around 11.15pm, officers were informed of an altercation between two men on Egerton Street. One of the men, in his 50s, was stabbed twice in his chest and stomach with an unknown item. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

A 53-year-old man from Liscard was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent this morning. He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Darren Hankin said: “Although we have made a swift arrest our investigation continues, and we are still keen to hear from anyone else who might have been on Egerton Street at the time to come forward with information.

“This was a violent incident in a residential area that no one should fall victim to. Any information or evidence you have could prove vital in our efforts to keep our streets safe.”
