Man charged with knife possession following incident in Newsham Park

Man arrested following hate crime assault in Tranmere

We have charged a man with possessing a knife following an incident at Newsham Park yesterday afternoon, Friday 11 August.

At around 4.20pm, officers saw a man acting suspiciously, who has then tried to flee the area on a scooter.

He was stopped by officers and following a search of his bag, under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, a suspected lock knife was found and seized.

Sand Omar, 20, of Penrose Street, Liverpool, has been charged with possession of a knife/sharp pointed article in a public place. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court today.

Local Policing Inspector Jon Smith said: “There has understandably been concern in our communities in relation to knife crime recently and we are determined to take these dangerous weapons off the streets.

“Thankfully, a knife has been recovered in this incident and I would urge anyone with information about knife crime to contact us. If you pass on information, we will act.”
