Man issued with five-year ban from two areas in Liverpool

A man has been banned for five years from entering two districts in Liverpool after being given a Criminal Behaviour Order for theft and anti-social behaviour offences.

Sean Daly, 56 years, of Onslow Road, Kensington pleaded guilty to theft from a shop and was issued with the five-year Criminal Behaviour Order at Sefton Magistrates Court yesterday, Thursday 18 May.

Daly received the order for committing anti-social behaviour, stealing alcohol from a number of shops over an extensive period of time and drinking in a public place.

The catalogue of offences read out in court detailed that he would drink the stolen alcohol – usually wine or spirits – on the retail premises. Supermarkets he targeted included The Range on Edge Lane, Aldi store in St John’s Precinct,  Marks and Spencer on Church Street, and Home Bargains on Audley Street.

The CBO prohibits him from entering two areas – Liverpool city centre and Edge Lane Retail Park.

In the city centre, Daly is banned from entering the area bounded by and including Ranelagh Street, Lime Street, Hood Street, Whitechapel, Paradise Street and School Lane.

While he is prohibited from entering the area surrounding Edge Lane Retail Park, which is bounded by and including Edge Lane, Rathbone Road, Wavertree Avenue and Innovation Boulevard.

In April he also received a 12-week jail sentence for the theft offences.

Community Policing Constable Dylan Steel said: “This order is great news to the local community and businesses that Daly targeted with his behaviour. He has plagued the area of Old Swan and beyond with his prolific offending, so this is extremely positive news that the order is in place until May 2028.

“Criminal Behaviour Orders continue to be an extremely effective tool and our successful application to amend in this case shows our commitment to dealing robustly with repeat offenders who have a negative impact on the communities we serve.

“We hope this prevents any more businesses from being targeted and serve as a clear warning to others, that officers taking steps to address prolific offenders. Should Daly breach the conditions of this order, he will be arrested, returned to court, and may be jailed.”
