Manchester Culture Awards – nomination deadline extended!

The deadline to make a nomination for this year’s Manchester Culture Awards has been extended by a week following requests from cultural organisations and others for more time.

It’s been two years since the awards were last held after they were cancelled due to Covid in 2020, and nominations have been rolling in since nominations opened last month.

Nominations were supposed to be in by midnight on Sunday 18 July but after last minute pleas asking for more time to complete nomination forms, the council has agreed to extend the nomination deadline by one week.

The deadline for making nominations is now midnight on Sunday 25 July.

Anyone can make a nomination – it isn’t just cultural organisations who can nominate – members of the public and community groups can also get involved.

Everyone who has taken part in a cultural event or project over the last year – whether as an audience member or through direct involvement – can have their say on what cultural events or organisations deserve to win an award.

Nominations can be made in thirteen different categories including young creative of the year, best event, best performance, and even special awards this year for organisations and individuals that have reached out and connected with people to help make a difference during the pandemic.

Judging takes place over summer and a full list of finalists will be published in October, ahead of the awards ceremony which will be held later in the year.

Councillor Luthfur Rahman OBE, Deputy Leader, Manchester City Council, said: “After a year off due to the pandemic we’ve already had a fantastic response to our call-out for nominations and it’s clear that culture goes to the core of what helps make Manchester buzz.

“We’ve heard from some organisations though that have struggled to meet the nomination deadline. We’re fully aware it’s been a difficult enough 18 months for everyone and we really don’t want anyone to miss out, so we’ve agreed to extend the deadline by a week to give everyone time to get their final nominations in.

“So if you haven’t made a nomination yet, or you haven’t yet completed it, get on-line before next Sunday, and get it in!”
