Mayor of Liverpool Joanne Anderson has asked residents to treat council officers with respect, as they work to clear a backlog of work created as a result of the pandemic.
Mayor Joanne said: “At the heart of my vision is building a better, safer and more inclusive city. While this is a collective responsibility, it is also up to each of us to be mindful of the way we treat each other.
“I know how appreciative residents are of the hard work carried out by officers at Liverpool City Council. However, I have sadly witnessed a small handful of people displaying unreasonable and abusive behaviour – both verbal and written – to the very people trying to help them.
“I have been so impressed with the dedication of council officers who work hard for the people of Liverpool. The past 18 months have been exceptionally challenging, and they have worked long hours amid the huge pressures of Covid. As they work to clear any backlog, I ask that residents be patient and understanding.
“Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and our staff do not come to work to be verbally abused.
“Unreasonable behaviour prevents them carrying out their vital work and hinders the organisations consideration of other resident’s queries. I’d like to make it clear that this behaviour will not be tolerated, and we have a clear policy for dealing with this.
“I want our officers to know they are valued and appreciated. The thing that makes our city great is our people – so please continue to show the warmth, kindness and respect that we are known for.”
