Merseyside Police and MFRS seize more than 100 smoke grenades and flares following warrants in Aintree

Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS) have seized more than 100 smoke grenades and flares and are questioning a man following warrants in Aintree this evening, Friday 3 July.

At around 6.35pm, officers attended addresses in Alscot Avenue and Taunton Drive following information received.

At Alscot Avenue, more than 100 smoke grenades and flares were seized, plus a quantity of cocaine, and a 36-year-old man is being questioned in relation to possession of Class A drugs. At Taunton Drive, suspected drugs were seized. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the occupants.

Merseyside Police Chief Inspector Andy Rankine said: “This is a welcome seizure, which removes from circulation a significant number of items which could cause serious injury and distress to those in the vicinity.

“I’d urge anyone who knows about similar locations to come forward, and work with all our emergency services to keep people safe and discouraging any mass gatherings at this crucial time. It’s vital that we all keeping working together to protect each other and the NHS.”
