Motorists advised of overnight road closures as part of major junction improvement scheme in Liverpool

Overnight closures in place at Pewfall as phase two of junction improvement scheme gets underway

Motorists are advised that A58 Liverpool Road will be closed at it’s junction with A580 East Lancashire Road from 6:00am Saturday 11th July until 5:00am Monday 13th July for repairs to a collapsed drain.

During the works, access to properties will be maintained and a diversion route will be in place – with a dedicated traffic management crew on hand throughout the duration. There will be a series of night time closures week commencing 13th July on the A580 eastbound and westbound, along with Liverpool Road and Stanley Bank Way. These closures will be between the hours of 8:00pm-6:00am to allow duct crossings to be installed as part of the Pewfall Junction Improvement Scheme.

Diversions will be in place and disruption will be kept to a minimum. Work on Pewfall Junction, which is undergoing a transformation to increase junction capacity in all directions – and improve safety through dedicated pedestrian and cycle crossings – is progressing well and construction has continued during the coronavirus pandemic, in line with government guidelines. Pewfall Junction Improvement Scheme is being funded by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Local Growth Fund through a £2.6m investment, with local developers contributing £500,000. St Helens Council will fund the remaining balance to help support economic growth and employment opportunities in the borough. Local Growth Funding is awarded to the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and invested through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund. The whole scheme is expected to be completed by late September 2020.
