A new permit for garden waste collections is about to launch in St Helens Borough, covering a shorter period than usual – Monday 31 August to Friday 4 December 2020.
The new permit will cost just £12 and residents can subscribe from Monday 27 July. Find full details and subscribe online at www.sthelens.gov.uk/gardenwaste or call the council’s Contact Centre on 01744 676789.
The current 2019/20 subscription period was due to end on Friday 29 May, but has been extended until Friday 28 August to make up for the collections missed while the service was suspended due to Covid-19.
Current subscribers who have provided a valid email address will receive an email notification about the new permit.
Normally subscriptions run from the beginning of June until the end of May the following year, with a winter break around Christmas.
Next year, subscriptions will be reset to run from the beginning of March 2021 for nine months. A cost for this subscription is yet to be determined. Residents will be able to subscribe to for the 2021 permit early in the new year.
Councillor Andy Bowden, St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said:
“As we look to recover from the impact of Covid-19 on our services, we’re taking this opportunity to make the garden waste subscription process simpler for residents, by changing it to run as a continuous nine-month service within one year, instead of it spanning across two years with a winter break.
“This shorter period covering 31 August to 4 December will enable us to reset for next year, making it far easier for residents to know when to subscribe and to see what they’re paying for.”
