Omega highways improvements continue

Construction of improvements at the junction of Lingley Green Avenue and Liverpool Road (Omega Local Highways Ph2B) are now under way, following preliminary works.

New left turn lanes will be provided on Liverpool Road Eastbound (towards the town centre) and Lingley Green Avenue southbound (on approach to the junction) to improve journey times through the junction and reduce queuing.

An upgraded shared foot/cycle path will be provided along Lingley Green Avenue between Liverpool Road and Park Road to meet the newly laid section of path between Park Road and Whittle Avenue.  New and upgraded toucan crossings will also be provided as part of the works.

The majority of the works are funded by the Department for Transport and the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership, following the submission of successful funding bids by Council Officers.  Construction is expected to be complete in May 2021.

Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for highways, transportation and public realm, Cllr Hans Mundry: “The Omega Local Highways project continues to progress well, and it’s great news that this latest phase is now under way.

“Once completed, these works will bring real benefits to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, improving safety, reducing queuing and promoting active travel, in line with the aims of our Fourth Local Transport Plan (LTP4).”

The improvements are part of the wider Omega Local Highways Project, which aims to reduce existing and future congestion generated by development in the west of the borough, facilitate access to employment and provide additional and upgraded walking and cycling facilities.

The Omega Local Highways Project is just one part of a wider programme of transport improvements across Warrington. The council has delivered over £100m worth of transport improvement schemes in the last five years.

These include:

•             Improvements at M62 Junction 8

•             The Warrington East project – a series of transport and highways improvements on Birchwood Way

•             Further improvements to a number of junctions around Omega and Lingley Mere

•             The recently opened Warrington West Railway Station

•             The Centre Park Link scheme – due to open to traffic in early 2021

The Council thanks residents for their patience during this period of disruption and apologises for any inconvenience.  More information on the Omega suite of improvements, including the location and duration of roadworks can be found at warrington.gov.uk/omega-local-highways
