On your marks – get set for a virtual St Helens Santa Dash

Christmas outfits and running shoes at the ready as the annual Santa Dash returns to St Helens this December – with this year’s event taking place virtually.

Organised by St Helens Borough Council’s Sports Development team – the family-friendly festive event will ask residents to run, walk or skip their way around a 5k route of their choice, raising money for Willowbrook Hospice in the process.

Sports Development Officer, Gemma Ireland, said: “This is one of our favourite events of the year and although we can’t deliver our usual event at Victoria Park, we still want to support people to stay active and have some Christmas fun.

“You can run, walk or skip your way around a 5k loop, straight from your own doorstep and we’ll also be hosting an online warm-up to get you started. Dig out your festive fancy dress and send us your photos too.”

St Helens Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Leisure, Libraries and Heritage, Councillor Anthony Burns, added:

“Given the year we’ve all had, it would be great to see the community get behind this activity which promotes both fun and fitness – all while raising money for a very worthy cause.

“These are the types of events we as a council are keen to promote as it encourages people to get up and get active in fun, green environments.”

Entry to take part in the virtual St Helens Santa Dash is just £5 which includes a commemorative medal which will be posted out. All proceeds will go to Willowbrook Hospice which has been hit hard financially as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Participants are encouraged to take part in the event on Saturday 12 December, though you can also complete the dash anytime between 12-24 December.

Please ensure you follow the latest Government guidelines on social distancing when taking part in the event.
