PDs Ringo, Bren and Ted
Greater Manchester Police dogs have helped arrest three potential offenders across the region on the same day.
PD Ted helped detain a man in the Werneth area of Oldham on suspicion of rape on 12 October. A 35-year-old man has been released on bail.
The same day, PD Ringo assisted officers in Prestwich, Bury, in locating a 28-year-old male suspect arrested on suspicion of assault.
And PD Bren helped GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Crime Unit arrest the 16-year-old driver of a suspected stolen car in Levenshulme, Manchester.
Stuart Oram, of GMP’s Tactical Dog Unit, said: “These arrests show how important police dogs are to Greater Manchester Police and how they work with a number of different teams.
“Our new dogs go on a 13-week initial course followed by six to eight weeks with an experienced handlers.
“They then receive regular training and refreshers that involves tracking property obedience and criminal work.
“Typically they serve for between eight and nine years.”
