Police have released an image of a man who they would like to speak after a bus driver was assaulted in Manchester city centre

At around 3.30pm on Friday 20 August 2021, police were called to a report of assault on a bus which had stopped on Oldham Road, Manchester.

Enquiries have established that the driver was helping a passenger to look for their mobile phone when he was confronted by a man who became engaged in an altercation with him.

Following this altercation, the man pushed the driver before punching him in the ribs and grabbing his face, causing his glasses to snap.

A member of public intervened and pulled the man off of the bus. The man then made off prior to police arrival.

Luckily the driver was not seriously injured; however he was left understandably shaken by the incident.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

PC Jordan Wujiw, of GMP’s Specialist Operation Branch, said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable. The bus driver was helping a passenger to locate their phone when he was confronted by a man who needlessly assaulted him.

“After having followed a number of leads and looking through CCTV footage, we are now able to release an image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with this assault.

“If you have any information that could help police to identify this man, please do not hesitate to get in touch.”
